Climate change is by many seen as the greatest environmental challenge of our time and energy supply is the greatest contributor to Greenhouse Gas emissions. The UK government has prioritised energy efficiency and renewable energy generation and has published the “Proposed Planning Policy Statement: Planning and Climate Change” for consultation. A growing number of Local Planning Authorities have adopted policies designed to stimulate the integration of renewable energy generation on new development sites: either through the requirement of a certain percentage of on-site renewable energy generation (the Merton Rule) or through a feasibility study.

A number of technologies for on-site renewable energy generation exist, among others:

  • Wind Turbines
  • Biomass Generation
  • Solar Hot Water Generation
  • Photo Voltaic Cells
  • Ground Source Heat Exchange

The efficiency of each of these technologies depends on the characteristics of the the development site and development design. We can support your planning applications with a renewable energy feasibility report, highlighting the most beneficial mix of renewable energy generation and providing an indicative cost/benefit analysis of the implementation of renewable energy generation on the site.
